SANTIAGO, Chile.- El expresidente chileno Sebastián Piñera (2010-2014 y 2018-2022) murió esta tarde luego de que se registrara un accidente de un helicóptero en la comuna de Lago Ranco, región de Los Ríos, según confirmaron fuentes diplomáticas a LA NACION.

El helicóptero accidentado pertenecía al expresidente, y de acuerdo a las primeras informaciones de medios chilenos, otros tres ocupantes sobrevivieron a la caída. Piñera no habría logrado sacarse el cinturón de seguridad y habría muerto ahogado, según los reportes de la prensa. La Armada llegó hasta el lugar donde cayó el helicóptero, que se habría hundido unos 40 metros.

El hecho habría ocurrido cerca de las 15 (hora local). Desde el Ministerio del Interior indicaron que, tras la caída del helicóptero al lago, los tres sobrevivientes lograron nadar hasta la orilla.

Hasta el lugar acudieron personal de emergencia, la Armada, Bomberos, Carabineros y el Samu Metropolitano.
